“We are True Status, our handle is @truefknstatus and we have a linktree in our bio where you can buy our merch. Aiden Sayed is our lead Guitar & vocals, Ruth DuPalm is on drums, Nicholas Schaefer on rhythm guitar, and Ben Sturmberg on the bass. Our genre is Rock ‘N’ Roll, and we’re based in San Marcos but we often play in the Austin area. We’ve been playing together a little under two years, but with this lineup it’s been about a year. We are working on getting our album out by October 31st, also watch out for a house show/birthday party on October 17th. Our sound is influenced by bands like Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, and Stone Temple Pilots. As far as physical media goes, it’s been our most effective form of promotion; we put flyers all over the city because not everybody has social media. We’ve been able to bring people together in the scene, we inspire each other to keep playing. [San Marcos] is a college town, so it’s important for people to live the life of a college student outside of the academic spirit.”

This was a quote from a few die-hard True Status fans after their set: “I’ve been following them since I met Ruth in class about two years ago. We go to almost all their shows, and that’s where we met each other.”

“We are Mourning After, our handle is @mourningaftertheband, and our website is mourningafterhq.com. Zoe Frederick is our vocals, Ethan Peschel on guitar, Rowan Templeton on bass, and Jesse Carrasco on drums. We play Alternative Rock, originally Grunge but we’ve evolved in our sound over time. We’re based in Austin, Texas, and we’ve been a band coming up on three years in October. We’re playing at Hotel Vegas on the 7th, Carousel Lounge the 10th, Cheer Up Charlie’s on the 11th, and we are currently working on an album. Our sound is inspired by bands like Queen of Stone Age and Smashing Pumpkins. Physical media is the most important thing we have in this world where everything is taken from us, and we have to subscribe to connect- it’s a thing that binds the general masses, there’s so many moving parts. Uplifting the music scene brings people together, and it also gives you an outlet- it’s about community, and connecting with people. In an age of AI, I’m hoping music’s going to take a turn pretty soon where people are going to start craving and valuing the human aspect.”

“We are Tough on Fridays, and our handle is @toughonfridays. We have Carly Fairchild on lead vocals and bass, Caleigh Segura on vocals and guitar, and Bella Sera on drums. Our genre is Alt Post-Rock, with some Grrl Riot influence. We’re based in North Austin, and we’ve been a band since 2020, but Bella joined us in 2023. We’re currently working on an album, the release date is TBD, so you should follow us so you can see when it’s out. Our sound is inspired by ourselves, we’re three different versions of girl. We like to draw from groups like The Hex Girls, Basement, and Paramore. Physical media is key to building community as much as possible between any media form, and personally I’d like to get off my phone a little bit. I want to hold something, I want to hold a god**mn magazine, which is why I love what YUCK! Is doing. Our band is very community forward, we stay as long as possible for all the sets, and try to get to know the other bands on our bills. Being an all-girl band feels empowering, I used to be afraid of it but we’re here for a reason, and we set the expectation on how to treat us.”

Here’s a quote from a brand new fan after the Tough On Friday set: “They remind me of The Donnas, which was my first concert so it brought me back. I like tough girl bands that show they belong in the scene just like everyone else.”

“We are Dednamez, our handle is @thedednamez, and we have a linktree in our bio. Our members are Maddie Ava on vocals and guitar, and Tommy Salami on the drums. Our genre is Punk with influences of Grunge, inspired by bands like The Toadies and The Vandals. We are based in San Marcos, but we barely play here- we’re all over the place. We’ve played 70 shows this year so far, and have been playing together since December. The band was previously called Maddie and the Dead Names, but we’ve since re-recorded everything, and our EP is on angrytoothrecords.com. We are looking forward to our tour this year, the kick-off party will be September 11th at Sean Patrick’s right here in San Marcos. We will be gone until November 21st, which will be the date we play our return show in San Mo- we’re throwing a huge kick back. We’ll be going as far as Washington State, so the whole west of the U.S. in three weeks. 

We’ve played in front of 500 people, but we go just as hard if there’s 8; if we’re first on the bill everybody else better buckle up and be ready to follow us. In San Marcos, it’s mostly young people and the bar scene is not that popular, there’s a lot of people interested in the music. People want DIY, but we also quit our jobs so this is our only form of income at the moment- we always try to be fair and reasonable with our merch, which we make by hand. We like putting actual items in people’s hands, for instance we’ll be giving out 1000 handbills for the 11th- we like it old school. We’re about to pass the torch to a PR Team since so much of my time gets taken up by the social media aspect, I’d rather be playing music & writing than making little videos with the right text so people will look at them- it just feels scummy to me and I hate it. I want not only us to succeed, but every single person that I think is talented and gives as much effort as we do- whenever we build a bill, we reach out to whoever we think f***ing rocks no matter if they’re popular or not. We have a rule that we show up early so we can stay and watch every band on the bill. We love everybody and we’ll play any show that we’re offered, we’ve been to DFW with 20 bucks. No matter what, play a million shows, don’t give up, and good things will happen.

“We are Call My Bluff, our handle is @callmybluffband, and our website is callmybluffband.com. Our genre is Hard Rock, and we’re based in San Marcos. Our members consist of Alex Willis on the bass, Nick Williford on the drums, Garrett Stacha on lead guitar, and Wes Hatcher on vocals and rhythm guitar. We’ve been playing together for two years, and while we don’t draw direct inspiration from anything, our sound reads similar to bands like Alice in Chains. We will be playing at The Porch on September 12th and also will be dropping our new single KEEPER the same day. Physical media is so important, because it guarantees you have something forever- god forbid something happened to our music on streaming platforms, and not everyone can afford those. The royalties are also very minimal on major platforms, so buying a CD supports musicians much more as well. Uplifting the scene to me means providing and practicing something outside of the average person’s 9-5. We deserve to show up for ourselves and put money in our pockets instead of shareholders. I love San Marcos for the music scene but also for the outdoors, we have so many beautiful hiking trails and rivers- check out Purgatory.
